Seeking Deeper Understanding #011

SDTEST® has 28 different VUCA polls that calculate the 9,191 correlation values between stages of development according to the theory of Spiral Dynamics and answer options of these 28 polls.

We invite curiosity about the systemic mechanisms behind this correlation. There may be hidden variables that provide alternative explanations.

In our analysis of the poll "Oxford Happiness Survey," we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.1130 between the I don't feel particularly healthy / Strongly Agree and the Purple stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0594. This positive correlation of 0.1130 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.1130 aligns with some key characteristics of the Purple value system. The Purple stage represents a strong focus on tradition, rituals, and adherence to the beliefs and ways of one's ancestors. Individuals in this stage are guided by myths, taboos, and a deep sense of belonging to their community or tribe.

One potential explanation for the observed correlation could be that individuals operating primarily from the Purple vMeme worldview may place greater emphasis on spiritual or supernatural beliefs related to health and well-being. These beliefs could influence their perception of their physical health status.

Additionally, the strong sense of community and adherence to traditional practices in the Purple stage could impact health-related behaviors and attitudes. This can sometimes lead to resistance or skepticism towards modern medical practices or interventions contradicting long-held cultural norms or beliefs regarding health and healing.

It is also possible that factors such as access to healthcare resources, socioeconomic status, or cultural beliefs about health and illness could contribute to the observed correlation, as these elements may be related to both perceived health status and the predominance of specific value systems within a given population.

Furthermore, as societies evolve and integrate different value systems, traditional beliefs and practices may adapt or coexist with modern medical knowledge and practices, leading to a more holistic approach to health and well-being.

In our analysis of the poll "Where would be your next most exciting opportunity?" we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.0921 between the International Market leader and the Red stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0621. This positive correlation of 0.0921 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.0921 aligns with some of the core characteristics associated with the Red vMeme.

The Red value system focuses intensely on power, self-expression, and individualism. Individuals operating primarily from this worldview tend to be driven by their impulses, desires, and a sense of dominance. They are often competitive, assertive, and willing to use force or coercive means to achieve their goals.

In the context of career aspirations, the desire to become an "International Market Leader" could resonate with the Red vMeme's emphasis on power, self-interest, and a desire for immediate gratification. The prospect of leading a global market and wielding influence on an international scale may appeal to the Red vMeme's need for recognition, status, and control.

Furthermore, the competitive and individualistic nature of the Red value system could align with the mindset required to strive for a position of leadership in the global market, where one must assertively navigate and overcome challenges to achieve success.

In our analysis of the poll "What will you do this week to look after your mental health?" we found an intriguing negative correlation that warrants closer examination:

-0.0847 between the Connect with Others and the Blue stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0732. This negative correlation of -0.0847 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This negative correlation of -0.0847 makes sense, given the Blue value system is characterized by a strong focus on order, rules, tradition, and adherence to a moral code handed down from a higher authority. Individuals operating primarily from this worldview tend to be conformist, rule-bound and have a strong sense of duty and responsibility within their group or organization.

One potential explanation for this negative correlation could be that individuals at the Blue stage may prioritize more structured or prescribed approaches to mental health care, such as seeking guidance from authority figures or following established practices within their community or organization. More informal or unstructured connections may align less strongly with Blue vMeme's emphasis on rules, hierarchy, and tradition.

Additionally, the Blue value system's strong sense of duty and responsibility within one's group or organization could lead individuals to prioritize their obligations and responsibilities over activities perceived as leisure or personal indulgence, such as casual social connections.

In our analysis of the poll "I live thinking about my past, present or future," we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.1082 between the Future and the Orange stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0643. This positive correlation of 0.1082 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.1082 makes sense since the Orange value system strongly emphasizes reason, science, technological advancement, and achieving goals through rational, analytical thinking. Individuals operating primarily from this worldview tend to be ambitious, goal-oriented, and driven by a desire for progress, efficiency, and results.

In this correlation, a future-oriented mindset aligns with Orange vMeme's focus on setting and striving towards objectives. By looking ahead and envisioning future possibilities, individuals at the Orange stage may be better equipped to apply logical reasoning, strategic planning, and scientific methods to achieve their desired outcomes.

Furthermore, the Orange value system's emphasis on individualism, self-reliance, and competition could contribute to a heightened focus on personal goals and ambitions, often requiring a forward-looking perspective to anticipate challenges, opportunities, and potential paths to success.

In our analysis of the poll "A.I. and the end of Civilization (Elon Musk)," we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.1082 between the State should exercise control over the development of the artificial intelligence / Somewhat agree and the Green stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.09. This positive correlation of 0.1082 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.1082 makes sense, given the Green value system represents a holistic, community-oriented worldview focused on unity, cooperation, environmental harmony, and the well-being of all. This stage values systems thinking, sustainability, and an egalitarian approach to decision-making.

In this correlation, favoring state control over AI development could resonate with Green vMeme's emphasis on collective responsibility, shared governance, and a precautionary approach to technological advancements that may impact society and the environment.

Individuals operating from the Green value system may be more inclined to advocate for centralized regulation and oversight of AI development to ensure it aligns with values of sustainability, ethical considerations, and the preservation of ecological and social harmony.

The Green vMeme's focus on inclusivity, stakeholder involvement, and consensus-based decision-making could also contribute to a preference for state-level governance and control over AI, as it may be perceived as a more democratic and participatory approach compared to leaving such a consequential technology solely in the hands of private entities or market forces.

However, it is essential to note that this correlation could also be influenced by factors such as specific concerns about AI risks, trust in governmental institutions, or personal experiences and belief systems that transcend the Green value system alone.  Analyzing the additional "Trust" poll and seeing a correlation with the Government will be beneficial.

In our analysis of the poll "Why do people procrastinate?" we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.0991 between the Overwhelm: Feeling overwhelmed by the magnitude or complexity of a task, leading to delayed action / Highly Applicable and the Yellow stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0819. This positive correlation of 0.0991 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.0991 makes sense, given that the Yellow value system represents the ability to integrate and transcend the previous value systems. A holistic, systems-thinking approach and understanding of complex, interconnected systems characterise it. Individuals operating from this stage can see multiple perspectives and focus on personal growth and development.

In the context of this correlation, individuals at the Yellow stage, with their deep appreciation for complexity and their ability to perceive intricate systems, may be more prone to feeling overwhelmed when faced with intricate or multifaceted tasks. Their heightened awareness of the interrelationships and nuances could contribute to this overwhelming sense, leading to procrastination.

The Yellow vMeme's emphasis on personal growth and development also plays a role. Individuals at this stage may set high standards for themselves and strive for self-actualization, which could lead to a perfectionist tendency or a desire to fully comprehend all aspects of a task before taking action, potentially contributing to feeling overwhelmed.

In our analysis of the poll "Gender difference in building self-confidence (IFD Allensbach)," we found an intriguing negative correlation that warrants closer examination:

-0.1436 between the Age group 25-29 years and the Turquoise stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.1283. This negative correlation of -0.1436 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This negative correlation of -0.1436 makes sense, given that the Turquoise value system represents a holistic, integrated, and ecological perspective. Recognizing the interconnectedness of all things and focusing on sustainability, harmony with the natural world, and the well-being of people and the planet characterizes it. Individuals operating from this stage tend to be driven by compassion, empathy, and a desire for inclusiveness.

In the context of this correlation, individuals at the Turquoise stage, with their holistic and expansive worldview, may be less likely to belong to the specific age group of 25-29 years. This could be due to several factors:

  1. Personal Growth and Development: The Turquoise vMeme focuses on personal growth and self-actualization, which may be more prevalent in later stages of life after individuals have had more life experiences and opportunities for self-reflection.
  2. Ecological and Global Awareness: The Turquoise value system's emphasis on ecological and global consciousness may come with a broader perspective that transcends age-specific concerns or identities.
  3. Transcendence of Conventional Structures: Individuals at the Turquoise stage may be less likely to conform to conventional age-related norms or categorizations, as they tend to transcend traditional structures and embrace a more fluid understanding of human development.
